A microchip is a rice sized bead that is injected under the skin of the neck of pets. Every pet that is brought to an animal shelter is supposed to be scanned for a microchip. The chip contains a number which allows the shelter to find the pet’s owner through a national registry. Microchips have been thought to be very safe but there is some recent concern that tumors may form at the injection site.
