Heartworm Disease

Heartworm disease is a deadly parasitic illness that is prevalent in our area.  Dogs should receive preventative medication starting at 6 weeks of age and continuing monthly for life.  The first heartworm test is given at 7 months of age.  Dogs should be tested every 1-3 years afterwards.  If any preventative treatments are missed or late, annual tests are needed. Dogs that have never received preventative care or that have missed a treatment since last tested, should be tested prior to surgery or dental care.  More info?  www.heartwormsociety.org
